ASP-NEWSASP Equipment delivers PFM of the EnMAP IPU26. March 2020

ASP Equipment delivers the Flight Model (PFM) of the EnMAP IPU to the instrument prime OHB-System in Oberpfaffenhofen Germany.

The German Environmental Mapping and Analysis Program (EnMAP) is a German hyperspectral satellite mission that aims to monitor and characterize the earth’s environment on a global scale. EnMAP serves to measure and model key dynamic processes of the earth’s ecosystems by extracting geochemical, biochemical and biophysical parameters, which provide information on the status and evolution of various terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.

Unique is the mission outline of a hyper-spectral range from 420 nm to 1000 nm (VNIR) and from 900 nm to 2450 nm (SWIR) with high radiometric resolution and stability in both spectral ranges.

A key role in enabling the extraordinary accuracy, resolution and stability requirements plays ASP´s contribution of the Instrument Power Unit (IPU).

The IPU is featuring 2 ultra-precise Calibration Current Sources, multiplexed to eight outputs, several switched outputs, galvanic isolated switchable outlets up to 10A, Latching Current Limiter functionality, 16 Heater Supplies and an UARTS based RS-422 TM/TC interface, supported through a space proof RTAX2000 FPGA. ASP has challenged physical limits in the achievement of highest possible accuracy and stability of the provided electrical power outlets.

The logical control capabilities of the IPU are developed to the extent to completely overtake the full thermal control of the EnMAP instrument, in cases where the board computer is booting or is nonoperational through any other circumstances.
